Certain restrictions may apply in the case of Mature Applicants.
Normally mature applicants should be 23 years old on or before 1st January 2017 (i.e. born on or before 1st January 1994) for admission in Autumn 2017 and must apply by 1st February 2017. However, some HEIs may have a different age requirement, different definitions of mature applicants, etc., and some will consider applications received after 1st February 2017, but not for mature entry to nursing/midwifery (see page 11 of the CAO Handbook) and/or mature entry to primary teaching.
Before applying you should refer to www.cao.ie/mature and view the information for mature applicants on Higher Education Institution websites. In particular, you should note HEI requirements for the provision of supplementary application information. If you have any questions, you must contact the Admissions Office or Mature Students Officer of the appropriate HEIs well in advance of application closing dates.
If you are applying for entry to nursing/midwifery and/or primary teaching on the basis of mature years you must apply for these courses through CAO by 1st February 2017.
Mature applicants, who wish to be considered on the basis of mature years, must apply direct to the following HEIs:
- National College of Ireland
- American College Dublin
- College of Computing Technology
- Dublin Business School
- Grafton College of Management Sciences
- Griffith College
- Irish College of Humanities and Applied Science
- Dorset College, Dublin
- Portobello Institute, Dublin
Mature applicants who wish to be considered on the basis of school leaving qualifications for these HEIs should apply to CAO - you may apply direct to the HEI and apply to CAO.
If you are applying for mature entry to Trinity College Dublin or BA courses in Marino Institute of Education: you must apply to CAO by 1st February. In addition, with the exception of mature nursing and midwifery courses, you must also submit to the appropriate HEI, by 1st February, a separate form which is available from the Admissions Office of the HEI. Contact Marino Institute of Education directly to ascertain late application availability for the BSc. For details of HEIs taking late applications for mature entry go to www.cao.ie/mature and view the information on Higher Education Institution websites referring to mature applications.
If you are applying for mature entry to primary teaching in Dublin City University, Marino Institute of Education, Mary Immaculate College Limerick or Maynooth University: you must apply to CAO by 1st February. In March, those meeting the eligibility criteria will receive a supplementary form and instructions for completing and submitting this form.
- The HEIs which are not mentioned in point 4 above require mature applicants to apply through CAO.
