What is the Change of Mind facility?
The Change of Mind facility opens in early May and closes on the 1 July at 5:15pm. This facility is used by applicants to add, remove or edit the order of course choices. This facility is free and can be used as many times as you like. It is important to note that there are some restrictions, e.g. mature applicants and restricted courses (see here: Restrictions).
What are the restrictions?
If you are a mature applicant, some HEIs may impose restrictions on Change of Mind. Mature applicants should make enquiries from individual Admissions Offices before introducing new course choices after 1st February.
If you are thinking of applying for a restricted course, please note that you may not enter a restricted course using the Change of Mind facility*.
*Exception: you may be permitted to introduce a restricted course which shares the exact same assessment procedures with a course you had applied for by 1st February at 17:15 - you should consult with the relevant HEI before introducing such a course.
Do I have to fill out the Level 7/6 list and the Level 8 list?
Applicants have the option to introduce 10 course choices on the Level 8 course list and 10 on the Level 7/6 course list, however you are not obliged to apply for 10 courses on each and you are not obliged to enter choices on both lists.
The choices that you make on one list will not affect the choices on the other list - the only time that you have to choose between the lists is if you receive an offer of a course from both lists.
How do I add courses?
To add courses you:
- Log in via the 'My Application' facility and go to add/change course choices.
- Introduce all of your courses on the 'New List' in your preferred order of preference, remembering to click 'Continue with course changes' to save the information.
- Check the acknowledgement e-mail sent to the e-mail address you supplied when making your application. Make sure to check that your changes have been recorded completely and correctly.
Should I have received an email after making changes to my courses?
If you make changes to your course choices you will receive an e-mail to confirm your new course choices. You can also log in to your account via the My Application facility to confirm that all of your details are recorded completely and correctly.
I made an Exceptional Late Application (22nd July application) how do I submit a change of mind?
Please read the section for Exceptional Late Applications in the CAO Handbook here: CAO Handbook
The Change of Mind deadline has passed, is there any way that I can change my course choices now?
You must have your course choices finalised by the Change of Mind closing date of 1 July at 5:15pm*. If you are were a student in an Irish HEI on 1 May, you may use the Change of Mind facility for Exceptional Late Applicants which closes on 22 July at 5:15pm. For more information on this facility read here: CAO Handbook

How should I list my courses/what is genuine order of preference?
When entering your course choices, it is extremely important that you list your courses based on your genuine order of preference and not on assumptions about examination performance or what you think the points will be for a course.
This means putting your favourite course as number 1 on your course choices list, your second favourite course in second place and so on.
