Mature Application Form  Help?

Definition of Mature Applicant and Closing Dates
Normally mature applicants should be 23 years old on or before 1st January in the year of entry (e.g. 1st January 2026 for admission in Autumn 2026) and must apply by 1st February 2026. However, some HEIs may have a different age requirement, different definitions of mature applicants, etc., and some will consider applications received after the 1st February closing date.

Further details on the criteria set by each institution and consideration of applications after the 1st February are available here.

Application Procedure
Mature applicants to nursing/midwifery courses, Graduate courses, and/or mature entry to primary teaching are not required to follow this application process UNLESS they are also applying to other course codes and wish to be considered on the grounds of mature years for those courses.
In order to be considered on the grounds of mature years, you MUST do the following:
  • Complete the online application process.
    • Add your course choices by 1st February at 17:00
    • Complete the Mature Applicant form by 1st March at 17:00
  • Supply the following supporting documentation to the CAO:
    • Evidence of any qualifications that you have indicated in your online application. This must include a certified translation of official documents not written in English.
    • The application should have enough space for your answers. However, if the space is insufficient, you can add extra pages and send them with your supporting documents.
    • Any documentation required by each of the institutions to which you are applying. Details of same are available from cao.ie/mature. Please note that there can be different requirements for each institution. Institutional requirements can also vary by course. Please ensure that you check this detail carefully.
    • If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of competency in the English language. You should check with the relevant institution(s) to determine the types of evidence acceptable.
📄 Documents may be uploaded to your application (see cao.ie/upload for instructions) or sent by post (see cao.ie/post for instructions) - do not do both.
